A PRAIRIE LANDS FOUNDATION PARK

Blog: This Week in the Woods

Illinois Prairie Week
09.08.2011

September 18 - 24 is Illinois Prairies Week! Go enjoy a walk of discovery through the tall grasses of Fugate Woods Nature Preserve prairie restoration area accessed via the Bluestem Trail. Check out the prairie forbs in bloom along the Alma Lewis James Path prairie restoration approaching the James Family Woods Bridge entrance.

Visit Weston Cemetery, an outstanding remnant of native prairie (one mile east of Weston, IL, along U. S. Route 24), and imagine the challenges of navigating the West on foot through the culture of rattle-snake master, compass plant, and prairie dock, with grasses towering overhead.
